A Celebrity in Our Midst
July 14, 2007

This year's Sultan Shindig Parade had as its Grand Marshall none other than our own Mrs. Sumpter!!! Congratulations to our intrepid Music Director, without whom the music program at Sultan High School would not be the success that it is. For she's a jolly good fellow...!

Victoria Trip a Success!
May 21, 2007

The Show Choir performed beside Victoria Harbor in British Columbia on Saturday to an appreciative crowd, and despite some rain on Sunday's performances (Jazz Band in the morning and Marching Band in the afternoon) the bands sounded great! The weather turned sunny for Monday's Victoria Day parade, capping a long weekend of hard work and great performances. Special thanks are in order for the folks at Crystal Pool for being such gracious hosts, and for the bus drivers and band parents who went the extra mile to make the trip a success!

Some pictures are in our gallery.

Choirs in Competition
March 28, 2007

On March 28, Sultan choir students competed at an event hosted by Stanwood High School. The Concert Choir scored a 2+, while the Women's Choir and the Honor Choir each scored a 1. (If you're unfamiliar with the scoring, a 1 is like an A, a 2 is like a B, etc.) This was a great showing; congratulations on a job well done!

Guys and Dolls
March 15, 2007

On March 8-10, Sultan music and drama students put on a swell production of Guys and Dolls. There are lots of pictures from the show in our gallery, with more on the way!

Also be sure to check out our Guys and Dolls downloads page for posters that you can print at home or send to your favorite print shop.

Spring Pep Band Season Ends
February 21, 2007

Another season of Spring Pep Band has come to an end with a knock-down-drag-out boys' basketball game, but you can reminisce in our photo gallery.

Turk Marching Band Wins General's Award!!!
November 18, 2006

Blue Ribbon In past Auburn Veterans Day Parades, the Marching Band has received the Mayor's Award for the best musical entry in the parade. Earlier this week, the music department received an email from the Auburn Special Events Coordinator congratulating the band on winning the General's Award this year, which is for the best entry in the entire parade. This is an incredible honor and is unprecedented in Sultan's history. Congratulations, Marching Band!!!

Auburn Trip Results
November 11, 2006

The Marching Band performed in Auburn's annual Veterans Day Parade and Field Show Competition on Saturday, November 11, 2006. The Turks placed first in the AA division in the parade competition, but took third place for their field show. It was a tough division this year, with Ferndale and Central Kitsap taking first and second places, respectively, but the Turks still bested perennial powerhouses like Sumner, Eisenhower, Kennewick, and three other AA schools. They also beat the score of the third-place band in AAA, meaning they placed fifth overall in all of A, AA and AAA, yet they represented the third smallest school present. It was a great finish to a fantastic year, and we're all proud of these great students! Some pictures are in our gallery.

The Seattle Times spotlighted the Marching Band in their Veterans Day 2006 photo gallery! (External site, will open a new browser window.) Go Abby!

As a side note, the Times did the same thing last year as well.

Everett Competition Results
October 28, 2006

The Marching Band had another great showing in Everett on October 28, 2006, once again beating out everyone in their A Division as well as all of the AA bands and even three AAA Smalls! Here are the results for The Turks:

  • Best Auxiliary
  • Best Percussion
  • Best General Effect
  • Best Music
  • First Place in the A Division
Some pictures are in our gallery. With only one competition left, Mr. Pardue is getting worried stoked about dyeing his hair blue if the band gets one more first...

The Challenge
October 25, 2006

Blue Hair The Turk Marching Band is having a great season, winning first place in their division in both competitions so far. With two more tough competitions to go, Assistant Band Director Jon Pardue challenged the Marching Band to get two more first places for their field show -- if they do, he will dye his hair Turk Blue.

Yakima Competition Results
October 21, 2006

The Turk Marching Band swept the A division and even scored higher than all of the AA bands in Yakima on October 21, 2006! The final results for all bands are posted on the harvestbands.org site, but here are the results for Sultan:

  • Best Auxiliary
  • Best Percussion
  • Best General Effect
  • Best Marching
  • Best Brass and Winds
  • Best Drum Major
  • First Place in the A Division

This is outstanding! Some pictures are already up in our gallery -- please send yours in!

Tumwater Competition Results
October 14, 2006

The Marching Band competed in Tumwater on Saturday, October 14, 2006. The Turks didn't disappoint, bringing home the hardware for:

  • Best Auxiliary
  • Best Marching
  • Best Music
  • First Place in the A/AA Division

Out of a field of ten bands, they placed number four overall -- a great achievement considering that they bested a couple of AAA bands as well as everyone else in A/AA. Some pictures have been posted in our gallery -- please send in more if you have them!
